To date Petromotive’s only product has been our Motoramic® line of writing instruments. We imagined Motoramic® to be an item that dealerships might have used to promote their cars back in the 1950s. To capture the automotive styling of the era, we created a writing instrument that, with its rounded features, black lacquer paint, and chrome accents, looks like it aspires to be a classic car. We then studied hundreds of old print advertisements to inform our choices for the packaging’s vintage typography, colors and shapes. But the most important thing we uncovered from those old ads was the art form of color illustration. Today color illustration is largely gone from advertising which was all the more reason for us to bring it back for Motoramic®. You will find beautiful automobile illustrations on the writing instrument’s mid-barrel and tin case with credit given on an inside wall of the packaging to the talented artists who rendered them.
